Radio in Gambia alerts to the seriousness of violence against women

Fatoumata Drammeh is a Gambian journalist who attended the Women’s Electronic Network Training (WENT Africa) in August, 2007 organised by APC-Africa-Women and Women’sNet. At the training workshop, women learned how to make digital stories on violence against women.

She was interviewed by Sylvie Niombo, APC-Africa-Women Co-coordinator, on the use of ICTs in her work and also on violence against women in Gambia. She explains how women in Gambia are affected by violence. She reveals that the culture of silence is killing women in Gambia, and women fear reporting violence because they see it as a way of exposing themselves.
