TRICALCAR - The Latin American Region Wireless Training Project.

The TRICALCAR wireless project which brings together several members of the APC in Latin America. PARM LAC developed a Gender, Community and ICTs module for the workshop, to help trainees and communities where the trainings take place think about the differentiated roles of men and women regarding control over the wireless tools being explored. TRICALCAR has strongly encouraged the application of women technicians to attend workshops, and has made sure that each of the three workshops taking place in different parts of Latin America has women tech trainers in their ranks.

The first TRICALCAR workshop took place in Peru in June 2007 with APC WNSP member Lilian Chamarro from COLNODO as one of the trainers. The next will take place in October 2007, in Argentina. We're anxious to see how these efforts at gender incorporation will play out in the project's development and results. The TRICALCAR project is coordinated by Sylvia Cadena of WILAC, a network on wireless technology for development in Latin America and the Caribbean, where all the training course materials are available for download, in Spanish. http://www.wilac.net/ Sylvia is also a long-time APC WNSP member.
