Omolayo Samuel: Climbing above the stereotypes
Omolayo Samuel became a role model for women in ICT when she became the first woman to climb a communications tower in northern Nigeria, and quite likely even in the whole country, on August 1 of this year. She is a member of the Fantsuam Foundation's ICT Department.

APC WNSP member Malgorzata (Gosia) Tarasiewicz from The Network of East-West-Women/ NEWW - Polska shares how she got involved with ICTs and the internet reality for women in Central Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States, from her perspective as Executive Director of NEWW-Polska.
“Women should not only be users of ICT but really have an impact on the way they operate so that it is not women who adapt to the ICTs but the way ICTs are used is adapted to the needs of women.”

APC Africa Women Member Wins Harambee Prize
Blogs for African Women (BAWo) has taken hold of the Nigerian blogging spirit to strengthen women's activism. Oreoluwa Somolu, BAWo's founder, sees blogging as a way to get women “hooked on technology”, and gain important skills for community and NGO leadership at the same time. Networking for Success, BAWo's second initiative getting women into the blogosphere, has just been awarded an Harambee Small Grant to increase BAWo's collaboration capacity.
Profile of an ICT Champion: Sara Hlupekile Longwe
Sara Hlupekile Longwe is a Zambian, a grassroots mobiliser, critic and author of the Longwe Framework for Gender Analysis. She has contributed greatly towards the women's movement in Africa, as well as to the feminist movement globally. She sees herself as a radical feminist activist and she believes that ICTs can be used to win gender struggles in Africa.

Con motivo del día internacional de la Mujer, el equipo de comunicaciones de Colnodo realizó una entrevista a Lilian Chamorro, desarrolladora de proyectos web de la organización. Lilian es la única mujer que hace parte del equipo técnico de la organización. Es ingeniera en electrónica y telecomunicaciones y pertenece al Programa de Apoyo a las Redes de Mujeres de APC. Se ha destacado por ser capacitadora en herramientas de software libre en talleres nacionales y latinoamericanos.
Dr. Heidi Schelhowe
Prof. Dr. Heidi Schelhowe is a professor for “Digital Media in Education” at the Computer Science Department of the University of Bremen. Her special field of research and teaching is application of Digital Media in schools as well as in university teaching, Computers and Society and Gender Questions in Computing Sciences. Interaction and interactivity are main concepts in her research and teaching, plus the constant efforts to create interesting and provocative gender aware knowledge environments.

Colnodo: ¿Qué tan común es que las mujeres trabajen en el tema de tecnologías de información y comunicación (TIC)?
De acuerdo con el Informe global 2006 de brecha de género del Foro Económico Mundial, Colombia es uno de los países latinoamericanos en donde las mujeres trabajan como profesionales en temas de tecnología en un porcentaje similar al de los hombres. Sin embargo, según otros estudios, la mayoría de ellas ocupan cargos más administrativos que de desarrollo técnico.

Kutoma Wakumuna, who is currently undertaking a PhD in Gender and Information Communication Technologies at Coventry University, is interviewed by Sylvie Niombo, APC Africa Women Co-coordinator.
Kutoma Wakumuna is a Zambian woman researching women and ICTs. She recently joined the APC Africa Women (AAW) network. She has published several research papers on gender and ICTs and also contributed to a case study for the “Women's ICT-Based Enterprise for Development" project coordinated by the University of Manchester's Institute for Development Policy and Management.
