Check out Social Source Commons
If you'd like to find tools that fit your needs, especially from the perspective of a gender and ICT practitioner looking to apply technology strategically in your organisation, Social Source Commons is a good place to check out what other non profit ICT practitioners are using. Social Source Commons "is a place to share lists of software tools that you already use, gain knowledge and support, and discover new tools. It’s a place to meet people with similar needs and interests and answer the question: what tools do they use?" And it just won a Net Squared Innovation Award!
Tools discussed: Gender and ICTs in education and communication
“The use of ICTs encourages and promotes different teaching and learning methods that are proving to be practical, functional, participatory and adaptable”, confirmed Vera Vieira, NGO coordinator.

A recent conference on Women's Perspectives in the Labor Market in the Czech Republic touched on a sore nerve: does the job flexibility of ICTs facilitate women working, or does it enable women's exploitation? The panel on Women and IT brought together researchers, representatives from companies, internet and computer trainers, and women information technology (IT) specialists, all with varying views on this debate.

Women in the African Newsroom
Kristin Palitza of Agenda Magazine was the chair of a discussion panel on gender and the media today, September 11 2007, in Grahamstown, South Africa. Unlike most of the other panels at Highway Africa, this one lined up three women and no man. A mistake, by some participants’ standards but certainly a colourful and rather critical one in an event where only 15 out of 55 speakers are women.
Challenges of content within the blogosphere in Africa
The issue of content production and representativeness is important within African news production. In her presentation at the 2007 Digital Citizen Indaba conference in Grahamstown on Sunday, the chairperson of LinuxChix in South Africa, Anna Badimo, highlighted the need for new approaches in African news production. APC Africa-Women co-coordinator Sylvie Niombo explained that content in the mainstream media ignores lived realities of women.

WENT Africa Training in Digital Storytelling to End Violence Against Women
"I never knew technology could be so useful to transform ones life until after the 5 day workshop on 'Digital Story Telling'. Seriously there was more to this than just telling a story." - Participant WENT 2007
Women came with their stories from Zimbabwe, Congo, Mali, Gambia, Kenya, Uganda, Brazil, and South Africa.

Women developed short videos reflecting their experiences as women documenters. The group examined the power dimensions of story telling and how to retain authenticity of voice - one's own and those of the people whose stories are being documented, preserved or disseminated.
