Investigadora chilena destaca en documental internacional sobre Internet
Patricia Peña, activista a favor de software libre, políticas TIC que favorecen a la ciudadanía y el uso y desarrollo estratégico de las TIC por parte de las mujeres es entre las entrevistadas en un material audiovisual que presenta a los líderes y precursores del desarrollo digital en Chile.
La periodista, Patricia Peña, emigró recientemente al Centro de Investigaciones de la Inclusión Digital y la Sociedad del Conocimiento de la Universidad de La Frontera, para transformarse en parte fundamental de su Línea de Ciudadanía Digital.
National Women's Summit: Women's Self-Reliant Leadership in Times of Crises

The gathering will collectively assess gains, best practices and innovations, continuing and emerging challenges in implementing the 1995 Beijing Platform for Action (BPFA) in the Philippine setting. The resulting program of action will serve as an input to the Asia-Pacific NGO Forum on the Beijing Plus 15.
APC WNSP’s manager, Chat Garcia Ramilo, is a speaker in the session “Gender, Media and ICT”.

Asia Pacific NGO Forum on Beijing + 15: Weaving Wisdom, Confronting Crises, Forging the Future

It has been half a generation since all member states of the United Nations agreed by consensus to act for Equality, Development and Peace in 12 critical areas of concern. The Asia Pacific NGO Forum highlights women NGO’s innovative and successful initiatives on the critical areas of concern of the BPFA as well as on UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and other human rights instruments.

ICT policy in the DRC: privacy protection at the forefront in the fight against impunity for perpetrators of violence
The participation of civil society organisations in the process of formulation of sectoral policies on information and communication technologies (ICTs) is still low and much moreso for women’s organisations. If this is an area where few have ventured, it is urgent today for women’s rights defenders to engage in ICT policy if they want answers to some questions; especially with regard to ending violence against women and girls.

Access to knowledge and gender - the latest edition from GenderIT
The latest edition of GenderIT looks at the question of access to knowledge focussing on Africa. Over the last century, copyright and patents legislation have penetrated into most countries. Strengthened by international trade agreements, and often pressure from the United States, this has had the impact of both shrinking the amount of knowledge that is freely available, and of legislating what is and is not ‘knowledge’. This has been happening at a time when it is becoming easier and cheaper to copy and transmit information.

In particular, it seeks to enhance engagement of intended beneficiaries & ‘vulnerable groups’ in negotiations concerning what constitutes illegal/harmful content, for whom, who should intervene at what type/level of harmful content and how. Central to this debate is the role of government and recognition that States have a duty to protect the rights of all to freedom of expression & information.
