Witnessing J-spot

Jan Moolman reporting from CSW..

I’m at the UN building in New York attending the 54th CSW and have just uploaded two videos to my online account. It took 3 minutes to upload. The videos share the impressions of two women’s rights activists working in and with media about what is happening with Section J at the CSW. They took four minutes to record. So, in seven minutes I was able to get quotes from women who spoke with authority about a newsworthy issue and distribute them as part of a package of news about gender (in)equality and the media.

Checking out! Better late than never!

I received confirmation from Cecilia: we can count on her participation in this next edition. But we won’t count with Jorge’s input this edition, cause he won’t be able to get on time with the article. Jorge lives in Peru, and the tragedy caused by an earthquake left all people in a really bad state, some regions without any kind of communication and he said to me that there are still some strong tremors. So, to suply his absence, I’ll probably write an article myself, perhaps an interview.

GenderIT.org: Check-out week 13 august

Again, I missed in time check-out for this (actually last) week. Last week i had:

  • followed up with Frederic and Sylvie&Jen on the selection of french writers for the pool of writers, and mainly next edition (the name of writers are with Jen&Sylvie, and I am waiting for their reply)
  • set up this genderit-team working group in the apcwomen member space
  • uploaded the translation of interview with Magaly on IGF (good interview, Flavia!) http://www.genderit.org/en/index.shtml?apc=—-e—1&x=95409
  • prepared a minimal GenderIT.org budget until the end of year (since we are still without a funding, and running on general wnsp funds), and the draft of budget for a new funding proposal for SDC (but I will need some input from you as well)
  • discussed with APC comms team and Erika what to do about a high translation cost, that almost tripled the actual writing costs, and look at possibility to negotiate a lower translation rates, especially into English, (e.g. for the article with 2500 words count, the Genderit.org writer will get max $ 150-160 , but the translation cost us

into spanish: =(2500*0.05)+(2500*0.025)= $ 187.5 (translation+editing)
into english/ french: = (2500*0.1)+(2500*0.03) = $ 325 , this is about in total $ 175 difference, which may cover another full-analytical article for GenderIT.org )

Looking forward to your checkouts and our meeting tomorrow.
