APC Africa Women Member Wins Harambee Prize

Blogs for African Women (BAWo) has taken hold of the Nigerian blogging spirit to strengthen women's activism. Oreoluwa Somolu, BAWo's founder, sees blogging as a way to get women “hooked on technology”, and gain important skills for community and NGO leadership at the same time. Networking for Success, BAWo's second initiative getting women into the blogosphere, has just been awarded an Harambee Small Grant to increase BAWo's collaboration capacity.

The APC WNSP will hold a panel on Openness at the second round of the IGF, debating solutions for balancing openness and security|safety concerns in the context of content regulation. In particular, it seeks to enhance engagement of intended beneficiaries & 'vulnerable groups' in negotiations concerning what constitutes illegal/harmful content, for whom, who should intervene at what type/level of harmful content and how. Central to this debate is the role of government and recognition that States have a duty to protect the rights of all to freedom of expression & information.
