after putting in the the "Shoutbox" and clicking on "VAW & ICTs", the right (grey) nav moved to the bottom left of the site.

also, realised that shoutbox was to members and not public yes? a little unclear about where different kinds of content will eventually end up on the site, so a little uncertain about what tone or content to write about.

think the design is affecting my ability to navigate this site as well as i should be. the textual logic and visual ones isn't coming together. ayayay...

ka-BLOG with us this year!

Last year, more than 30 bloggers created a buzz on the blogosphere on violence against women and ICTs. With more than 150 posts in at least 8 languages, we're looking to make our voices louder! Join us as a ka-BLOGger this year, and mark your reality in this digital space, and let's thicken what VAW means when it connects with ICTs.

checking website out as public

Public

I'm interested to write about TBTT, and to get some more information about the organisers of this initiative. Like what it does, whether it has dodgy politics, whether it's northern based, who leads it, what kinds of work does it do etc (halfway through I started losing my 'external but interested persona', and started becoming TBTT mother-hen..sorry! so this is a mixed up review between what i'd like to see as a public, and as a project coordinator)

layout:

  • front page - ICT champion & tech tip maybe to move up before news? i might miss it if I'm not so keen on news (which I wouldn't be, unless I know the organisation and the people -- otherwise news is just news like every other site, but tech tip and champions are cool features!)
  • "members" - members tool kit, maybe can be at the top? a kind of funky button? it gets lost at the bottom, esp if after all the names come in.
  • "members" - like the right side bar, with login options and links to community spaces (flickr, social tagging etc)
  • throughout - something feels a little weird about dynamic boxes being underneath static content (e.g. GEM: what's new is beneath what GEM is about).

checking the member's space out

i am liking this member's space features! lots of stuff. maybe to the point of too much :D but it's cool!

blog:

  • not sure about the cross-posting to LJ. going to post this and see how it works (see comment)
  • there is an edit function, it's cool! :) not entirely clear on the outset, but hopefully we can encourage people to play?
  • also wondering if there should be some kind of statement, to say opinions held belong solely to bloggers (in case of flamewars... we can't all be polite no? heheh. and maybe even a statement on that, no personal attacks in this space?)

shoutbox:

  • my shout isn't showing up. it says it's saved, but not appearing on the side?

forum:

  • not entirely clear what's the difference between blog and forum. maybe the introductory for both could mention the purpose of both different kinds of content. i.e. where would blog posts end up, who might be reading it, what kinds of stuff can be blogged about; or whose going to be part of this forum, what for? etc
